Company History

Begun in 1904 as a family-owned foundry in South Gate, California, Weiser started out specializing in hardware and ornate custom-designed locks, some of which were featured in films and used in the homes of movie stars.

In 1967, Weiser was purchased by Norris Industries, Inc. which merged with Masco Building Products Corporation in 1985. Weiser was purchased by The Black & Decker Corporation on October 1st, 2003. Headquartered in Towson, Md., Black & Decker is a leading global manufacturer and marketer of power tools and accessories, hardware and home improvement products, and technology-based fastening systems. In 2010 Black & Decker merged with Stanley, and in 2012, Spectrum Brand's purchased the Hardware and Home Improvement Group from Stanley Black & Decker, nicely synergizing with Spectrum Brand's diverse range of quality consumer companies.

Our recent history has been filled with product innovations and new product introductions. In 1995, Weiser® introduced an industry first, the Brilliance® Anti-Tarnish Finish that solved the tarnishing problem that has historically plagued brass. Brilliance ingeniously employs Low Temperature Arc Vapor Deposition (LTAVD), a process that puts a finish on our locksets that's so tough and durable, it's virtually impossible to destroy. Brilliance is offered on a complete line of exterior products that come with a full Lifetime Anti-Tarnish warranty guaranteeing they will never tarnish, discolor or corrode.

In 1996, Weiser introduced the Powerbolt® Keyless Home Access System. The Powerbolt 1000 Touchpad Electronic Deadbolt provides safe, quick home entry for homeowners and their families, with a touch of a four-to-eight-digit access code. Service personnel such as painters, baby-sitters and house cleaners can be given temporary access codes that can be changed easily and as often as necessary.

In 2000, Weiser built a brand new, 285,000 square foot, state of the art manufacturing facility in Nogales, Mexico. During this time, we also installed a new manufacturing planning software system. Both projects involved significant investments in time and money. Weiser is now prepared to meet or exceed the industry's benchmarks in service levels, on time shipments, quality, and cost controls.

In 2001, we greatly expanded our product offering with the introduction of a variety of new products, styles and finishes. These items included:

    • Satin nickel finish. This very popular finish was introduced in several product lines and will be expanded to include more products in the future.
    • Basics by Weiser Lock™. This new, opening price point line is focused on value and quality.
    • Elements Series®. This series was expanded to include new, fashionable handlesets and lever styles in a variety of new finishes including satin nickel.
    • Welcome Home Series®. This line was also expanded to include keyed levers in several styles and finishes.

In 2006 we were proud to introduce our finest line of door hardware ever: Collections by Weiser Lock™ We’ve taken 100 years of experience and crafted our most distinctive line of products, in the latest styles and finishes, with the highest level of security available for your home.

Weiser will continue to address your needs with innovative, quality products, a focus on fashion and style, exceptional customer service and a commitment to “go the extra mile”. After all, we have a second century to build!
